Travel Tuesday - The US of A

The travel bug bit me when I planned this - my very first overseas trip.

Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to go to Disney World.

This dream shaped my entire future. I did not go to university after high school because I wanted to realise my dream.
I told myself I would go to Disney World and come back home and begin studying.

Once I travelled, I wanted to do it more! So I took a job and started saving for more travels around the globe.

Did you know?
Disneyworld, Orlando - Florida opened on this day in 1971. (Happy Birthday Disney World!)

To celebrate this magical place's birthday, here are some fun facts:

  1. There are more than 20,000 different colors of paint used in Walt Disney World.
  2. The Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow (EPCOT) was to be a real working futuristic city, it was once meant to actually be lived in. Walt Disney died before the park opened and EPCOT became park of the amusement park instead
  3. No trash can will ever be more than 30 steps away from you
  4. Disney World employs more people on one site than any other company in the US. During peek times it ranges between 55,000-60,000 which is about half of the Disney employees worldwide
  5. Every single day, more than 200 pairs of sunglasses are turned in to the Lost and Found department
  6. There's a hotel suite tucked away in Cinderella's Castle that can sleep up to six and has flat-screen TV disguised as magic mirrors. Unfortunately, you can't just make a reservation—overnight guests are winners that are chosen at random by the park each day.

We also visited Medieval Times - as seen on The Cable Guy with Jim Carey
I loved the actual jousting and ancient tournaments
Medieval Times - Kissimmee Florida

Universal Studios was an absolute treat for a movie buff such as myself.
Back to the Future fans will recognise this scene as the street where Marty tried to get back to the future.
The backdrop you see in the photo is actually a painting.
Even looking at it now boggles the mind!

Seaworld was an experience. The dolphin shows were so well executed I felt that South Africa had nothing on these shows.

We even got to see the real Free Willy whale and watch him swimming underwater.

New York was 1 of my favourite places to visit. My birthday was celebrated there. We only spent 4 days there and it was not enough at all.
I would love to go back and explore Central Park in it's entirety.
Statue of Liberty
Almost all of our photos feature the Twin Towers in the background - so sad that it is no longer there.

Probably the last photo taken of me wearing a T-Shirt. Never again!! You won't even find me wearing a One Direction T-Shirt.
