Bad Lip Reading- Twilight

This had me in stitches!  Sniggering like a crazy person at 5am. They also did a spoof of a One Direction music video and made it into a Foreign Film.

Whether you're a fan of Twilight,  or hate it,  you will enjoy this!  :-D

JB Convert?

Hello, my name is Flirty30 and I am... cough... a closet... cough... Justin Bieber fan

I can already hear the groans of my readers out there...

I have to make a confession... I have always liked his Music. My ipod has most of his hits - I especially like the songs he sings with other artists like Usher and Jaden Smith etc.
I have recently heard alot about his documentary - Never Say Never - people who don't like him have been saying how good it was, so the other day I hired it.

Wow. I must admit, I had no idea who JB really was except for being that kid with the annoying girly voice. I have a new appreciation for how hard he worked at his dream and he actually is a naturally gifted guy.
What really made me respect him  was the kindness he shows his fans - handing out free tickets, writing to them on Twitter etc.

I have gone from disliking him, to respecting him. He is a little arrogant for my tastes still - my One Direction boys are proper, decent, down to earth guys - but I cannot say that I don't like JB anymore.

Who saw this coming....... I didn't!

Annual Christmas Party

It is already time for my annual Christmas Party.

I have been throwing these parties since 2003 (before I even had a digital camera)

Every guest buys a unisex present (the price varies. It began at R10) This year the gift had to be a R30 food/drink related gift.

We then play a present swapping game where you get to steal a present from a person should you so wish!

In all the years, we have never had 2 gifts the same - I love the originality that crops up every year.

The very first year, I cooked for everybody, but since moving into smaller places over the years, we began meeting at a restaurant. I usually bring my own Christmas decorations and take over.

I usually go very traditional but this year I decided on a more contemporary theme and veered away from the Father Christmas related decor.

Our venue this year was the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice in Melrose Arch. The dress code was a Fire & Ice theme for obvious reasons. Black/Red for Fire - Blue/White for Ice.

I wore my grey top with black leggings and my awesome red Iron Fist shoes.

Tee looked gorgeous in her red dress and I curled her hair (she woke up the next day and her curls were STILL in place)

Non traditional name tags
The restaurant has amazing thrones chairs and I had to take the opportunity to mess around for a photo wearing the Xmas tree and a scarf (and I only had 2 glasses of wine!)

The food was impeccable and I wish I had space for their famous milkshakes, but I was too full!

On a side-note: If you are invited to a party here are a few rules (they sound like common sense, but 2 invited guests proved that they may be adults, but that does not mean that intelligent people have any party etiquette)

  1. Read the invitation you are sent - it has some very handy information on it.
  2. Arrive on time
  3. If you are running late, inform the host/hostess. It is not right that the hostess has to keep following up with you. Your tardiness is indirectly rude to the guests who arrived on time and are now waiting to order their meal.
  4. If you are requested to bring a gift, ensure it is wrapped (unless specifically stated) Wrapping it in a table napkin may get you some laughs on the outside, but in reality it shows bad planning and no class. There is a clever invention called a Gift-Bag. Pop your present in and Ta-Da. Takes 3 seconds.
  5. If you RSVP yes to a party - it is very rude to arrive, eat and leave immediately afterwards. In future (for 1 of my parties) don't bother coming.

Spending Season

The Christmas season is upon us and I finally get to eat the 1st chocolate of my One Direction Advent Calendar!
It's the little things I tell ya!

But on a more serious note, Christmas this year is going to be a hard year for alot of families/people around the world, and most especially in South Africa.

The problem with society today is that when somebody says, "I can't afford that" they tend to feel embarrassed, and we shouldn't.

Christmas time is my favourite season of the year, I get to spoil the ones I love and watch their face light up as they open the gift I have spent hours pondering about.
The reality though is that none of us in our company are receiving bonuses. It is a blow especially for me, all the months of working until 2am .... but what can one do? A bonus is not compulsory, it is just that - a bonus. (It still sucks though)
So without that money and with the huge expenses I will be incurring from 2013, I have to really start counting my pennies and following a proper budget. No more utilising my overdraft for that dinner out or a nice fancy camera. (and watching every single One Direction video on YouTube for that matter)

I chatted to the family last night and we have decided to all buy 1 nice gift with a maximum value R200. We each get assigned another family member and buy for them.
For every one else, we buy a stocking filler of R50. There are 5 adults, so that means that we will end up spending R350 a person, plus R50 a person for food.
My nephew is almost 2 years old and he needs a Big Boy bed now, so we will contribute towards a bed and I will put money in is account. He is too young to remember the exact gifts he receives and in a day or 2 he will move onto something more exciting anyway.
I am excited that I have found a way to make Christmas fun, but to keep it affordable and not be a financial burden on the family.

On another note - 1 up side of putting on weight this year is that I resolved not to buy any more clothes until I had lost all the weight I had gained.
I have hardly bought any clothes  and as a result I have had to become quite resourceful with my mix and match wardrobe. Some days it is fun putting together a quirky outfit and it just works, other days I feel like a pauper!
It has been a blessing in disguise because I can imagine that my clothings account balances would have been a lot higher!

How are you saving money this festive season?

When I wish Dreams were Reality...

I had an awesome dream last night about Jared Padalecki (Sam from Supernatural)
I dreamt I was dating him! wow
We were holding hands, and kissing and I remember lifting his shirt up to kiss his Appendix scar... it was all so .... normal (except that my boyfriend was Super HOT!)
I can vividly recall his stomach muscles and the feel of his body heat...

Waking up this morning was harsh.
I enjoyed the familiarity I felt with someone I love and someone who I find irresistibly attractive.
It's something I have long since experienced.
It really has been a while....

I miss it

The Race that was... Amazing

What a blast!

The people really go all out in dressing up and it was entertainment just standing around watching the Runaway Brides, Super Mario brothers, Team Slow (Snails) and Star Wars walking around.

4 SeaSonS: Summer, Winter, Autumn, Spring

1 of the Tasks: An egg Mascot

We did not place anywhere, but nonetheless we had an Amazing (excuse the pun!) time!
Racing through the streets of Jhb, jumping out of windows, drinking shots... all in a day's Race.

The clues were not that easy to solve, but once we got into it and learned how each person navigates and what their problem solving strengths are, we were well into the swing of things.

The clues took us all over the city and we got to see and experience places that I have never really had the time to explore..... Drink a shot at Odd Cafe, build a paper plane at Devonshire Bridge, visit the rhino statue at Zoo Lake, kick a soccer ball at Discovery soccer park..... etc etc etc

1 of the clue sheets

All the money went to the Wildlife Fund - to raise money for a very worthy cause & help save our rapidly dwindling Rhino population.

The day was so much fun - watch this space for next year's race details, Halo will be changing the name, but the event will still go on.
I challenge you all to join us next year!

Amazing Race for Charity

It's always been my dream to enter the Amazing Race. Seeing as they have not opened up the competition to  international competitors, I will have to make do with the local version for now.

This Saturday we are doing an Amazing Race for Charity - I am really looking forward to doing this race!

We will cover the JHB area and follow clues using QR Coding and that type of thing. The team has to have a women driver. Between myself and Tee, she has the 4 door car - mine is 2 door (can you imagine trying to get in and out of the car every time?)

Our Team Name is 4 SeaSonS

I am Spring - I get to wear Pink! Apparently, nothing is too over the top.

All the proceeds from the race go to the wildlife fund - so I am proud to be doing my small bit - they need all the help they can get, especially with the Rhino Poaching Epidemic.

RACE RULES

  1. I will not pay speeding fines. Drive at your own risk. Any team who organizes a police escort gets a big “thumbs up” from me. It might even save you time.
  2. Each car to have a team of 4 or 5. Not 6 unless one of them is David Kramer in your Volksie Bus. Not very streamlined that vehicle.
  3. Each team to have 1 (ONE) girl. Transvestites do not count. She must be accredited with boobs. Teams with 4 girls and no guys will be awarded a 10 minute head start (kick off at 11:50am).
  4. The driver of the car must, will and always has to be female, Caster Samenya included. We won’t undertake chromosome testing but we might have to cop a feel! No male may ever drive. He must just sit there and watch. And gently navigate…
  5. All contestants to be at Baron by 11:00 on Saturday 24 November. The madness will kick off at 12:00pm sharp (unless you have 8/10 boobs in your car – see point 3)!
  6. Petrol stops waste time and that’s if they have fuel supplies! Begin the race with a full tank (of petrol that is, go to the bathroom before hand).
  7. There will be 10 clues! There may even be 10 destinations. First team back at Baron with proof of solving all 10 clues will be deemed the winner. No bribery or corruption will be tolerated! Are police escorts allowed? OF COURSE!
  8. NUMBER 8 IS AN IMPORTANT CLUE: No more lifelines for sale. Your entry includes ONE lifeline per team. If you need more than 1, let’s just say it’s going to be a long day for you, I hope you like your team mates.
  9. Shops close at 5. Remember this! You might need to buy a thing or two…
  10. High heels are for the after party, especially if you are female. Not suited for the race. Wear comfortable shoes. Maybe, just maybe, you will end up running. Laura Croft couldn’t even do that in high heels.
  11. I wonder how many people are actually still reading this far…
  12. If I come right with some sponsors again there might even be a prize for best dressed team and best dressed car. Herby can’t wait…
  13. No clue will endanger any team.
  14. All teams to have the following in their possession:
    1. A camera. Preferably digital. It might waste a bit of time if you have to go develop your pics at Foto First. An hour could be a long time to wait. Proof of all 10 clues must on camera with the other 3 team mates in every photo.
    2. There is no B
    3. One hot girl as driver, read rule 3.
    4. 3/4 passengers. Should, at some point during the race, you realize you are short of one of these, you better head back to find them. I suggest bells around their necks.
    5. One map book. Or you can be larnie and have one of those space age, futuristic, “G.P.S” thingies – like those will have take off! HA.
    6. One motor vehicle. Try not losing this along the way! A beep-beep alarm system with good signal helps to find where you parked it in times of mild panic.
    7. Cooler box with alcohol stock (for non-driving team mates) and lots of water for the driver – optional (the cooler box not the driver and the H2O).
  15. Driver to remain sober throughout the trip. SEE – REE – USS!
  16. Every person is encouraged to invite more people. 200 teams at least this year! It’s for the kids! Do it.
  17. Looking at the economy of late, most things have been hit by inflation. Blow up dolls have gone up a staggering 24%. Umm… I mean… So I heard. Because we love having everyone take part, we are keeping the race entry like a $2 dollar hooker, Dirt Cheap. R1000 per team which includes a lifeline!
  18. We will give more information on how to enter when they open.
  19. All teams to attend prize giving afterwards. Prize giving will begin at 16:10 SHARP to finish by the rugby. It gets really thirsty during the prize giving, beer is welcome. Yes, this also means that if you haven’t solved all 10 clues by 16:00 you have not won the race so please do return…
  20. The after party pumps until late. Don’t make any plans for that day or night!
  21. Only the top 10 teams will have their clues checked. So if you need a pat on the back, ask your mom to meet you afterwards. Come on! Make her proud!
  22. Sign in on the day could be a bit sluggish. Try get to Baron a bit early to sign in and sign the indemnity (I-won’t-sue-for-breaking-my-leg-and-crashing-my-car) form.
  23. Print and keep the rules on you at all times! If you get pulled over by a cop car, this rule sheet will not get you off though!

The guys who organise it seem like a lot of fun...

I am sure you are wondering the same....

Kate!! I miss you and your posts! :-(

Kate is the epitome of a true lady - she doesn't seem to realise her strength and her beauty (Inner and Outer)

She weaves fascinating stories about her life -  her challenges and joys -  Kate is 'real'

Whenever I am feeling rushed or down & have time to catch up online - Kate's blog is the 1st one I go to, it calms me.

I have it on my Bucket List to meet this amazing lady... One day I will....

Swearing, Bullying and Cowardly Behaviour

It really shows poor intelligence when people have to resort to swearing instead of an intelligent response.

I'm blown away by how unstable some people actually are.

Deal with a situation like an adult for heavens sake!
No need to be immature and involve other people because you are too weak to face a difficult or unpleasant challenge.

I have no respect for people who do this.

These past 2 weeks have revealed bullying by teenagers, suicide attempts by a grown man because his girlfriend broke up with him and an unstable woman scorned who has lost the respect of her boyfriend and everyone else.

Must be tough for them. Wonder what they see when they examine their conscience.

I feel you

I feel the heat between us as you move in your seat
I feel my pulse race as we share a look that nobody sees
I feel the words you are not saying by the curve of your smile
I feel the need you have that echos in me
I feel desired by you

Little Things - My wedding song

"Little Things"

Your hand fits in mine
Like it's made just for me
But bear this in mind
It was meant to be
And I'm joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks
And it all makes sense to me

I know you've never loved
The crinkles by your eyes
When you smile
You've never loved
Your stomach or your thighs,
The dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine
But I'll love them endlessly

I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if I do
It's you
Oh, it's you they add up to
I'm in love with you
And all these little things

You can't go to bed without a cup of tea
And maybe that's the reason that you talk in your sleep
And all those conversations are the secrets that I keep
Though it makes no sense to me

I know you've never loved
The sound of your voice on tape
You never want
To know how much you weigh
You still have to squeeze into your jeans
But you're perfect to me

I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it's true
It's you,
It's you they add up to
I'm in love with you
And all these little things

You'll never love yourself half as much as I love you
You'll never treat yourself right, darling, but I want you to.
If I let you know I'm here for you
Maybe you'll love yourself like I love you, oh.

And I've just let these little things slip out of my mouth
'Cause it's you,
Oh, it's you,
It's you they add up to
And I'm in love with you
And all these little things

I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it's true
It's you,
It's you they add up to
I'm in love with you
And all your little things

My boys really are growing up... I adore this song... Here are stills from the video.

Younger Men....

I've been missing my Mojo a bit lately and in the last week I seem to be getting it back.

By nature, I am a flirty person and nothing makes me feel more alive than some witty flirting with a hot guy. If he is a hot, YOUNGER guy, then all the more reason to smile.

I am sure it isn't news to you that I like my men younger, as past flings relationships have attested to.
And no matter how hard I try, I cannot stop the flutter of my heart when I am flirting with a guy who is younger than I am.... 2, 3, 5, 9 years - all the better!
I have dated a man 16 years my senior and I have dated men my own age and then younger, so I have alot of experience with all age groups.
Now that I have had a piece of all types.... I prefer them young.
Perhaps if you had to psycho-analyse me you would arrive at a suitably psycho-babbly theory.
All I know is that I feel alive and sexy when I am speaking to them.
I smile more and I remember the person I used to be, the person I feel like I am losing over the past few years.
My heart beats warm blood through my veins (instead of the usual ice)

There is a special younger man who has caught my eye - call him Special K.... we have started chatting and getting to know each other. He knows about my 1D obsession and he hasn't run for the hills yet. There is definitely a spark between us, so who knows what could happen.
He is a nice guy and I really do like him. I just really don't have patience to wait and see what happens, I want it to happen now... but this is something I don't want to rush.
I want to get to know him and let him get to know me before we complicate it. I have said nothing to anybody about my feelings for him.
For some reason I feel the need for him to be my little secret. so for now... SSHHHH......

Friendship trees

Ever watch How to lose a Guy in 10 Days? Kate Hudson buys Matthew a Love Palm...

Tee and I meet for lunch on Sunday afternoon to catch up. Afterwards we took a walk around the nursery to burn off the food we had consumed.
We came across these adorable little trees and each bought one for Christmas!

Friendship Christmas Trees!

By the colour of the pots you can guess mine is on the right!

I said to Tee, this will be the test of our friendship based on whomever can keep their plant alive the longest - although my luck with trees... not the best. (Perhaps I should've kept my mouth shut)
House plants - green thumb.
Bonsai trees or herbs.... not so much!

I'm looking forward to being able to decorate her when she gets a bit bigger. I think this year my Jim Shaw ornaments will have to be clustered around her base, but hopefully by next year Kathy (I've just named her that) will be stronger.

Can you keep a secret?

Remember I mentioned a while back that I had some big decisions to make?
So now that it's all gone through I don't have to worry about jinxing it.. ..
I bought a townhouse !
This is a huge commitment for me.

Let me tell you how it all started: I've been feeling this restlessness for a while now,  partly to do with the fact that I'm still single and because I'm living in between 2 of the noisiest neighbours ever!
I've always rented for 2 reasons:
1. Too expensive to buy on my own in an area I like , Sandton or Fourways.
2. Because of No1, I thought I would wait to get married and we buy together.

I love the area I am currently living in and on my way to work 1 morning I saw a new development open for sale.  On a whim,  I stopped and had a look.

It was fate!  Not only were they  loft apartments,  but they were affordable too,  and in the area I like!

I chose a unit there on the spot and signed! I got to the office and told Tee,  who’s response was: I didn't even know you were looking!
I wasn't .

It took me ages to actually submit my loan application as I needed bank statements.  I called up Std bank and they emailed them to me immediately ! Stress free application.  6 days later.. . Approved.
Whoop whoop!

It is still alot more money every month,  but I finally found a place I love in the area I love!
Its a 1 bedroom loft with space for a dining table (TV room/lounge) will be upstairs which opens up onto a covered patio with small area on patio that's open.
And they allow cats ! :-) otherwise it wouldn't have been an option anyway!

My rent agreement ends Feb and I get to move to new place end March.  Sure my landlord will extend lease another month.

So everything has gone smoothly enough.

It took me longer to decide on my phone and my camera than a townhouse.  Go figure!
I never said I was conventional !

I still haven't shared the news with anyone other than Tee and my parents  so ssshhhhh ! :-)

Let's hope I finally get that raise I've been waiting for since Dec 2011. Otherwise things are going to be right financially.
As I said to my mom,  I won't be able to afford going out to dinners as much,  so I will be thin in my new house!  Ha ha

Next good thing that's gonna happen. .. I'm winning those tickets to New York Baby!

If you wanna help me,  please record yourself saying One Direction . That's all I need.  Will be working on the video this weekend .

Hold thumbs that my life continues on this path... I like me so much better when I'm happy!

Living life to the full - 1 flight at a time

The irony of posting the One Direction video is that it has made me feel even more restless than usual.
I was supposed to go overseas this year, but then due to a friend not going through with the arrangements, I had to make do with 2 smaller mini breakaways.

The thing about travelling overseas is not for the actual vacation time or rest time, it is about exploring the big world world out there. Making you feel that you really are a part of something big. I always feel especially blessed when I travel and get to experience what the world has to offer.

Being South African leaves us at a bit of a disadvantage. Our currency is almost always divided by 8, or 10 or 12. 1 months worth of rent would perhaps cover a week holiday, excluding the plane tickets (2 months rent)

Giving it some thought though, I think I need to take advantage of my friends around the globe and plan a HUGE trip.

I could start in London, go on to Switzerland, travel to Canada, then visit the US - California & Boston (that's you Kate)

I could then move on to Australia (I have 3 friends scattered around) and end it off with New Zealand.

Sounds good doesn't it!

Well… I will if I win the competition!
Anybody feel like helping me with this once in a lifetime opportunity?

I camped....

... in luxury....

Recently Tee & I took advantage of the long weekend and went away to Dullstroom (a sleepy little tourist town about 3-4 hours drive from us) for 4 days.

For 2 girls who are usually so well planned and organised, we both surprised ourselves. We booked the accommodation (a place called Valley of the Rainbow) and hardly researched anything about it.
All we knew was that we had to get away and the "luxury tent" blurb on the website sold it for us.

The drive there was relatively painless, until we stopped for a quick slowest lunch break of our life.

2 hours later we eventually managed to drag the bill out of our waiter so that we could arrive at our destination with some daylight to spare.

Little did we know that the seemingly endless gravel road was determined to get the better of my little car. It took us a lot longer than we expected, but we all made it in 1 piece.

Our tent was cozy, complete with comfortable beds, down duvets and electric blankets. Luxury might be stretching the truth somewhat, but comfortable for sure.

This was our view when we awoke the next morning:

Gorgeous lake from the deck
We managed to spend a day shopping in the little town and visited the cutest little Christmas shop.

We ended up spending more money on Sweets - which we then proceeded to eat for an entire day. Junk food day was awesome.
Tee chatted to a guy about the best way to brew coffee and picked us a nice blend.

I think coffee time was my favourite part of the day. Having just woken up at your own pace, nowhere to be, dressed in  PJS, wrapped up in the down duvet, hair a-mess, no make-up, sipping coffee. mmmhhhhh

It was exactly what we needed.

Around late afternoon, we decided to walk off some of the junk and take a walk around the area and visit the stunning trout dams.

The area we stayed at had no cell reception - after the 1st day of mild panic that I wouldn't be able to access Facebook or Twitter - I overcame it and just relaxed.
The property boasts a very old Water Mill which will soon be restored and the area will be converted into a little coffee shop.
They also plan to upgrade the tents to true luxury - when that is complete I can definitely foresee an influx of business.

We needed the rest and even though it we didn't get to see a rainbow (or the pot of gold), I think it definitely saved a few stupid people at the office. I managed to not bite their heads off!
